To work from home is more than being your own boss. You need to have some basic skills experience prior to even considering it.
When you choose to work from your own home, you may not realize a few majorly important things. These things would include distractions, time management, and self motivation.
The truth is that not everyone is able to be their own boss.
You will need to be able to make yourself work even when you may find that there is much more interesting things to be done elsewhere.

Working from home does not mean that the work will do itself. It also does not mean that you will have other people to work for you at first and even if you do, they will require your attention. Be Prepared to Work When you work from home, you will be working hard. You should be working harder than when you worked for someone else. |

This is your business and if you want it to succeed then you will put all the time and effort into it as possible. No business is completely self reliable, nor will it be extremely lucrative at first. You need to prepare to open your business before you actually do it. The work that you put into research, marketing, and making your business the best in your niche, the more people will notice and see you when you do open for business. |

If you are not careful, work from home offers many opportunities to slack off and get nothing done. You will need to be able to stay on task, set goals, accomplish all you need to, and remain where you need to be. This can mean long hours at first if you still are working for someone else and have to plan for your own business. |

Managing Your Time Time management is one the most important parts when you work from home. It is easy to forget that you are actually at work and not home to relax. |
This is especially true for those who are used to the rigors of the 9 -5 workday. Home is where you kick your feet up and relax. Not any more, home is a place of business with hours like any other. Time management skills will help you to set these daily, weekly, and other goals.
You will want to set hours for yourself. During these hours there will be no visitors, non-business related phone calls, or other recreational distractions. You are at work and you will need to tell others that you cannot be disturbed. This will also allow you to plan your time off as well. Without time management you will get distracted, waste time, get nothing done as planned, and feel you are always working when in reality, you are doing a lot of nothing. Planning your day is the best way to combat the distractions. Turn off any non-business related media to be sure that the least amount of intrusion happens. When you work from home you need to actually work.
